Suffer 10-1 loss on Sunday after 5-4 shootout loss in Pickering Friday

TORONTO -- As far as gruesome movies go, Quentin Tarantino has produced some dandy ones over the years.
From Pulp Fiction to Kill Bill to Grindhouse, he's left many an ill stomach.

On Sunday, Giordano Tarantino -- no known relation to the acclaimed director -- and his teammates did his best to manufacture a ghastly show of his own as the Durham Fury paid a visit to the Toronto Jr. Canadiens in Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League action.

Tarantino scored twice in the third period to cap a hat trick, while Brett Tamane had five points including two goals as the Fury was hammered all around the ice in a 10-1 drubbing at the hands of the Canadiens.

Understandably, general manager John Annis was at a real loss for words Tuesday when asked to describe the happenings of Sunday's debacle.

"Terrible, ugly, awful, all of the above," he said. "We just never got it rolling. That's two games out of 10 that I can honestly say we didn't compete."

From start to finish, the Fury players were on their heels, with Luigi Martone providing the only semi-bright spot in the game by scoring his team-leading eighth goal.

Aside from that, Annis was still seething at his club's lack of effort as they prepare to host the Markham Waxers Tuesday at the Campus Ice Centre.

"The bottom line is they are a good team. Not a 10-1 team, but a good team," said Annis. "They went to the finals with Pickering last year and got all their forwards back. At 4-1 we had some chances, breakaways, didn't score and they did and we stood around and watched. Literally stood around and watched. I think it was the sixth goal or the seventh goal, they passed the puck four times in front of our net, five-on-five and scored."

Martone also potted a pair of markers Friday night in a disappointing 5-4 shootout loss to the Pickering Panthers, another setback that didn't sit well with Fury brass.

"They pull their goalie and we go down two men and they score twice. We allowed 51 shots again, or 50, whatever the hell it was. It stops here," he said. "We had chances to get the puck out of our end, but we weren't paying attention to detail. And penalties killed us."

Of course, leading the league in a couple of dubious categories doesn't help either.

"We lead the league in penalty minutes, we lead the league in shots on net (against) and we lead the league in goals against. It's got to be straightened out. We have to clean up in our own end," Annis stated.

FURY FILES: Skylar Quinn added two goals in Friday's loss while Wes Annis made 46 saves... After Tuesday's game the club is off until next Tuesday when they host Pickering.
