OSHAWA -- The second period was the one to see Tuesday night at the Campus Ice Centre. Desperately in need of a victory, the Durham Fury hosted the Dixie Beehives and they proved to be just the tonic Durham needed to get back on the winning track.
After a scoreless opening period, the floodgates opened in a big way in the second stanza as Durham outscored the visitors by a 5-2 count en route to posting a 6-2 victory, their first such decision of in the month of November.
Trevor McKinney opened the scoring 3:35 into the second on a power play and Brett Eagleson upped the Fury lead to 2-0 a couple of minutes later, also with the man advantage.
Dixie then cut the lead to 2-1, however, the Fury bounced right back with another pair courtesy Michael Shirley and Skylar Quinn.
The teams then traded goals to close out the period with Aaron Pierce getting credit for the Durham goal, while McKinney added his second of the night 25 seconds into the third.
McKinney also added an assist for a three point night, while Eagleson and Gauld, with two assists each, had two-point nights.
German Tsatsura was given the nod in net and responded with a 27-save effort.
The Fury play a rare Saturday night home tilt as the Pickering Panthers come to town for an 8:30 start. The last time the two met, Pickering skated away with a 10-4 victory, however, they still sit in last place in the South Division. .
