Four game slide puts Durham into the basement

OSHAWA -- The hard times continue for the Durham Fury.
After fighting off last place for much of the Ontario Provincial Junior A season, after four straight losses, the Fury finds itself occupying the South Conference basement with an uninspiring 7-22-5 record.

Their most recent pair of losses came earlier this week against a tough Vaughan Vipers squad, who are battling for first in the division.

Tuesday night the Fury fell behind 2-0 before the game was even five minutes old and were never able to recover in a 5-2 loss. Vaughan took a 4-1 advantage into the third period, a lead which Skylar Quinn cut to 4-2 with a power play marker just prior to the midway mark of the period.

That was as close as they would get though, as the Vipers converted once more to round out the scoring.

Brett Eagleson scored the other Fury goal in the first period.

A night earlier, the Fury had their power play working just about as well as it ever has, scoring four times on nine opportunities, however on the strength of three power play tallies of their own, Vaughan wrapped up a 6-4 victory on home ice.

Quinn scored the lone Fury goal of the first period as they trailed 3-1 after 20 minutes. Following another Vaughan goal, Taylor Law and Justin Hitchen each scored in the second, cutting the deficit to 4-3 heading into the third.

The Vipers came out and notched the first two of the third period before Durham's Derek Foote added the final Fury goal later in the frame.

Despite having allowed six goals, goaltending was hardly to blame on Monday as Brandon Foote stopped 50 of 56 shots.

Heading into those two games the Fury had been coming off a 5-1 loss to St. Mike's and an 8-3 loss to Toronto.

FURY FILES: Kyle Speers scored the lone goal in the loss to St. Mike's, while Brandon Foote made 40 stops... The Fury plays a rare weekend home game tomorrow night at the Campus Ice Centre (8:30) against the St. Michael's Buzzers... Tuesday they play host to the Ajax Attack at 7:30.
