OSHAWA -- Just when it looked like the Durham Fury might be able to build off a rare win, they took another step back into the loss column earlier this week.
After posting an impressive 4-3 overtime victory against the North York Rangers on the weekend, the Fury prepared for a visit from the Toronto Jr. Canadiens on Tuesday.
Apparently those preparations didn't go all that well.
The Jr. Canadiens scored three times in the first to set the tone, added one more in the second and put up a four-spot in the third to hand the Fury an 8-3 loss, as Durham fell to 7-19-5 heading into tonight's game at St. Mike's.
Despite the lopsided final, Fury general manager John Annis figured his team deserved a better fate.
"I've got to be honest, I didn't think we played all that bad," he said. "I thought we out chanced them, but in the end, and I haven't been this blunt about it before, but it came down to goaltending. They got it, and we really didn't."
German Tsatsura was beaten eight times on 31 shots.
But offensively it wasn't until the game was well out of reach in the third that Durham finally found a nose for the net, scoring three times courtesy Derek Foote, Rob Kay and Trevor McKinney.
They had plenty of opportunities to get back into the game early, including a stretch of three-straight power plays in the final 10 minutes of the first.
"We hit a couple of posts and a cross bar, but that's the way it goes for us," said Annis.
However it was a full 60-plus minute effort that netted the Fury a pair of points in their win over the Rangers.
After a scoreless first period, the teams traded goals the rest of the way through with Derek Foote, Steven Koufis and Matt Gauld providing the scoring for Durham.
Behn Robertson ended the game 2:37 into overtime.
